Who is Using My Boston Monument Guide Book? Jaqueline Ganim- DeFalco Is That's Who.

Jacqueline Ganim-DeFalco from Gloucester, MA observes,

"Public Art is a great gift to a city and Joe Gallo's book is a great gift to Boston... Joe's comprehensive look at the diverse and important installations in Boston deserves its own place in our modern history and should be a model for such work in other cities."

Esplanade
Ralph Helmick (1952 -), Sculptor Aluminum / Granite h. 6’ 4”

During my senior year in high school, I first saw Arthur Fiedler, energetically conducting The Boston Symphony Orches- tra. Sitting in the first level balcony I watched his demanding intensity leading his musicians. The sculptor, Helmick depicts Fiedler’s forceful musical passion in granite and layers of alumi- num, an exception to our theme of bronze and stone but Fiedler was an exception in symphonic conductors.
Famed and beloved conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra for fifty years, 1929-1979, Arthur Fiedler founded the free Esplanade concerts still performed in Boston’s summer evenings at the nearby Hatch Shell.

Cambridge sculptor Ralph Helmick earned a B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1974 and an M.F.A. from the Boston Museum School in 1980. This monumental head is built up of cut out layers of aluminum in varying thicknesses, a distinctive tech- nique originated by Helmick.

"Boston Bronze and Stone Speak To Us" can be purchased on Amazon.com and at local book shops within the Boston area.
